- I am a not so recently retired social studies teacher and basketball coach. Still hunting birds though now with a camera instead of a gun. Nature devotee, dog lover, birder, gardener and semi-retired all around outdoor adventure seeker. Troutbirder II is my alter ego. He loves books and history and is an opponent of unnecessary, unplanned and unending "preemptive wars". A former moderate Republican, he spent the Bush II years gradually converting to "yellow dog" Democrat. He is now somewhat unhappy with the Democrats abandonment of unions and cozying up to Wall Street. This is promoting a gradual drift towards Democratic Socialism though he remains "flexible...

I promised to let you know what I thought of the movie and I'm just getting around to that now.
I'm with you, TB, and I may go a step further and say it was really a terrible movie. I was alone among my companions in disliking the movie. Without exception all of my female companions absolutely loved the movie. But I'm afraid it was all about eye candy for them. Here's why I hated the movie.
1. The movie couldn't seem to decide if it was humor or serious. The firing of people seemed too real to me. I learned later that the people who were 'fired' in the movie, had in real life been laid off from their jobs. Those reactions were real. I found it painful and not at all funny.
2. There was far to much cuteness and mugging for the camera. I hated the scene where the young female exec has a crying fit in a hotel lobby. Again, is the movie trying to be funny? I found it simply obnoxious.
3. (Spoiler alert, I'm going to talk about the end of the movie, so stop reading now if you haven't seen it). The movie delivered a message at the end that made it sound as if ONLY those in a relationship could weather tough times like a job layoff. Pretty tough news for those of us who are single. But it's not true and sets a pretty unrealistic bar for all those 'chicks' who loved the movie. A pretty high percentage of us are alone and we need coping skills that don't rely on a companion in our bedroom.
4. And George may have seemed cute to all my friends, but he was just to GQ for me. I like my men a little more casual.
That's my four cents.
And, oops, I do know when to use "too" and not "to", but my fingers have a will of their own.
He looks like a real nerd in that photo. I didn't see the movie. Your review was enough to convince me it wasn't worth my time.
We don't go to movies. Usually wait til they show up on TV, then we're glad we never spent any money on the movie hall.
