Construction of Christ the Redeemer in Rio da Janeiro, Brazil.
Overlooking the city of Rio, site of this years Olympic games, it was constructed over a ten year period beginning in 1922.

This is iconic and appropriate for Rio at this time.
The visible face gave it away immediately. Interesting.

I'm enjoying this series! For me it wasn't the face so much as the width of the scaffolding!
That is some sculpture. Years ago when I was a teenager...well about 14 I met a lady, he was a sister to the local Forest Ranger who married my second grade teacher. Anyways she was also a teacher and was going to travel to Rio De Janero that summer...she described what she wanted to see and this statue was high on her list. I always wondered if the trip was as exciting for her as just thinking about it was for me. (Farm kid...from the sticks.) Hope you and Mrs T are enjoying the summer, the weather has been just grand the last few days:)
