The Life Of Pi
Other than the fact that we went to the wrong theater, had
two hours to kill when we finally found the right one and ate an overcooked
char hardened rib sandwich while waiting for the show to start, The Life of Pi
was a really interesting and enjoyable movie. Oh and I might add the awful
previews were a reminder of why we rarely go to movies these days. There aren’t
many for grownups….. Lincoln was the
most recent one we enjoyed.
The Life of Pi, while PG rated has some frightening scenes
involving people and animals. It would
not be for young children. A tiger trapped in a small boat with other animals and a boy is not for the
faint hearted. It’s really a fantasy
wrapped inside a parable. Visually stunning it left me thinking about some of
the bigger questions of life including religion, childrearing and choices. All
in all, it's an excellent and academy award nominated film….

The majority of films are certainly geared to the younger folk. The Best Marigold Hotel was a pleasant movie geared to the older amongst us.

ReplyDeleteI agree with you about Newsweek and its still a cut above Time, I think. Time was interesting to me because they must have a group of very young graphic artists putting the pages together, in colors I can't read, and very small print. Maybe they felt they didn't have enough older readers to kowtow to them, and guess what, now they don't!

I tried reading the book and just could not get into it...will wait till the library gets the DVD.
ReplyDeleteI'm conflicted about seeing The Life of Pi. I'll probably wait to see it on TV as well. Now, Lincoln must be seen on the big screen to get the full effect of the carnage on the battlefield etc. I would like to see it again as it's so rich in detail that I feel like I didn't absorb it all!

ReplyDeleteThe older I grow . . the less ability I have for violence in any form. ( I can still watch football with hubby :)
I like feel good shows with no violence..I have not seen the Life of Pi..perhaps I will read the book:)
